Pigeon Forge Winterfest Welcomes Guests with Five Million Lights, New Attractions; Annual celebration slated for Nov. 8-Feb. 28, 2016

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (Oct. 5, 2016)—Draped in more than five million lights, Pigeon Forge creates a winter wonderland for guests to enjoy during the city’s annual Winterfest celebration (Nov. 8-Feb. 28).

Located in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains in East Tennessee, the family friendly destination brings new meaning to sparkle, twinkle and glow as colorful light displays depicting popular characters and playful scenes illuminate the city’s six-lane Parkway from one end to the other.

“Whether folks are visiting Pigeon Forge for the first time or making a return trip, Winterfest is the perfect occasion to share those moments that become memories,” said Leon Downey, executive director of tourism for the city of Pigeon Forge. “It’s a special time of year, and we’re proud to offer folks something new to experience alongside the many traditions they’ve come to expect in Pigeon Forge.”

This year, several new attractions expand the scope of Winterfest, giving families more reasons to visit:

  • The Island in Pigeon Forge unveils $1.5 million in new Christmas experiences for guests. All-new decorations are showcased throughout the 23-acre property, including approximately 40,000 ornaments, half a million lights and more than 5,000 feet of garland. Guests are treated to three new Christmas trees, including one that stands 40 feet tall and allows guests to walk through. Santa and Mrs. Claus greet guests at their new workshop while roving carolers fill the air with Christmas music. Paula Deen presides over The Island’s annual tree lighting ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 26, at 6 p.m. There is no admission fee to enjoy the Christmas décor.
  • Dollywood recently announced the $2.5 million addition of Dolly’s Parade of Many Colors, featuring new floats, specialty characters and songs. The park also adds a new show to its entertainment lineup with the stage production It’s a Wonderful Life. Both are part of Dollywood’s award-winning Smoky Mountain Christmas festival (Nov. 5-Jan. 1, 2017).
  • Dolly Parton’s Lumberjack Adventure Dinner & Show puts a new spin on the holidays with an all-new Christmas show. This year, it is Christmas in Timber Ridge and the competition is on to see which lumber camp family is the best at growing and supplying the best Christmas trees in all the land. A cast of lumberjacks, “lumberjills” and “lumberjacrobats” bring this fast-paced, high-energy Christmas spectacular to life. A show-stopping Nativity scene, set to the sounds of Dolly’s own recording of The Little Drummer Boy, celebrates the true meaning of Christmas.

Other Winterfest highlights include:

  • The Titanic Attraction’s fourth annual Thanksgiving fireworks spectacular on Thursday, Nov. 24, at 7 p.m. Festivities also include a whimsical parade of costumed steampunk revelers.
  • The Inn at Christmas Place welcomes Gerald Charles Dickens, great-great-grandson of literary master Charles Dickens, on Nov. 6-8. In his seventh year at the property, Dickens performs his one-man enactment of A Christmas Carol. New for 2016, Inn at Christmas Place offers afternoon tea featuring A Child’s Journey with Dickens on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 3 p.m.

Opening Date for Dolly Parton’s Lumberjack Adventure Announced

PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (May 13, 2016) – Dolly Parton’s Lumberjack Adventure, one of the most anticipated new dinner attractions to come to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in recent memory, is slated to open to eager guests on Friday, May 20. Lumberjack Adventure represents a $25 million investment by Parton to create an all-new dinner theater unlike anything Pigeon Forge has seen before.

“I can promise you’ve never seen another show like this in town before,” Parton said. “I’ve truly enjoyed creating this Smoky Mountain story for families to enjoy while they are here in Pigeon Forge. There are completely new experiences for guests at this show and I can’t wait to hear what they think of the finished product.”

Parton serves as Executive Producer of the show and wrote the romantic song, “Something More,” which helps tell the story of this Smoky Mountain-themed adventure. During the show, astonished guests will marvel at the skill of world-class entertainers who thrill audiences with daring feats of acrobatic ability both in the sky and on stage. Numerous other performers display their tremendous talents through axe juggling, speed climbing and an assortment of unbelievable acts.

While the story was created in-house by her long-time collaborator Ken McCabe, Parton has assembled some of the best choreographers, set designers, lighting and sound consultants and composers in the world to create an experience never before seen in the Smokies. More than half of the total investment was allocated to make the extraordinary new show come to life for guests. A state-of-the-art sound system, lighting and special effects help immerse the audience in what is a completely new experience.

The existing building on the site was gutted and coupled with new construction to fulfill the vision of this spectacular new show. Renovations to the theater include new ticketing and arrival experiences; a space for pre-show entertainment; a distinctive animated stage and set; state-of-the-art sound, lighting and aerial rigging; and a completely new kitchen for the scrumptious lumberjack feast.

The lumberjack feast, also recently announced, treats guests to tantalizing tastes inspired by the campfire cuisine of a fun-filled sawmill logging camp. The meal begins with creamy timber slaw and a buttery, homemade lumberjack biscuit followed by campfire fried chicken, smokehouse pulled pork, homestyle smashed taters, sawmill gravy and fried skillet corn. The meal concludes with Lumberjack Adventure’s own specialty dessert. Unlimited Pepsi, tea and coffee also are part of the meal.

Lumberjack Adventure celebrates the spirit of the Appalachian people who lived off the land in logging and milling towns that dotted the map throughout the region. Guests will enjoy an exciting and imaginative adventure complete with hearty lumberjack feast. The new show is sure to provide families with even more opportunities to make lasting memories when they visit the Great Smoky Mountains.
