Smoky Mountain Weather
Everyone knows that weather can be unpredictable so plan accordingly
and know what the Great Smoky Mountains
weather is going to be like on your visit. The summer months can be hot and busy
so a lot of visitors take advantage of the cooler temperatures and smaller
crowds and visit during the fall, winter, or spring months.
Make sure to check the Smoky Mountains Weather report because weather
can greatly differ between there and Pigeon Forge. Temperatures can vary 10-20
degrees Fahrenheit from the mountain base to the peak and rain might sneak up
on your hiking trip. Don’t be caught unaware – know about the weather in the Smoky

Spring
Smoky Mountain weather becomes unpredictable March through May. Changes in
weather happen rapidly here. A clear sunny sky can suddenly burst with snow
flurries in only a few hours. March has the most radical changes. Expect snow
fall at any time during the month, especially in higher elevated areas. By
mid-April the Great Smoky Mountains weather is generally milder. Afternoon
showers in April average out to 4 inches.
Summer
During this season expect heat, haze, and humidity in the Smoky Mountain
weather report. Afternoon showers and thunderstorms are common, June through
August. Temperatures increase through the day with the lower elevations highs
in the 90s. Evening lows are typically comfortable with temperatures in the 60s
and 70s. Higher elevations during this season have the most appealing weather.
Autumn
From September through mid-November you’ll find the Smoky Mountains to be
cooler with clear skies. Daytime highs are most often in the 70s and 80s during
September, falling to the 50s and 60s in early November. Late September is
usually when the first frosts begin, by November lows are normally near
freezing. Though this is the driest year, the higher elevations have a
possibility of snow by November.
Winter
Smoky Mountain weather reports for winter are generally moderate. Keep in mind
though that extreme weather does occur, especially with an increase in
elevation. It is not unusual for warm temperatures to occur in the low
elevations, while the higher areas have snow. Most nights in this season are at
or below freezing. But lows of -20°F are possible at high elevated areas.
January and February is when snow in the mountains will most likely be found.
During a storm the snow has been known to reach up to 2 feet.
