Tourist Tuesday: July 2
Wayne and Shirley Bast from Jackson, Mississippi were taking in a meal at the famous restaurant with the giant mushroom statue outside (made of real car parts). This was also the first time I had been to this new restaurant and I must agree with Wayne when he said it was some of the best pizza he’s ever had.
“Lots of times when we come here we go to all the good Southern food places but this pizza just really made it worth it. “
The Basts came in for a week’s stay and said that they’ve been coming to Pigeon Forge off and on for the past four years. “It’s a great place for a mental break,” said Shirley. “It’s beautiful and there’s usually something to see that we haven’t tried yet.”
I asked them what they thought of The Island which just had its grand opening last week.
“It’s really a neat area. We rode the wheel (Great Smoky Mountain Wheel) before dinner and it was something. We saw the lights on it the other night.”
The Basts said one of the main reasons they come to Pigeon Forge each year is to visit Great Smoky Mountains National Park.
“We almost always take a drive up to Clingmans or Cade’s Cove when we come,” said Wayne. “We went through the (Roaring Fork) Motor Nature Trail yesterday. There aren’t many mountains down in Mississippi.”
