Tourist Tuesday September 24

Dixie Stampede in Pigeon Forge, TNOur guests for this week’s Tourist Tuesday are Frank and Amelia Hillis from Lucasville, Ohio.

This retired couple said they try and visit Pigeon Forge at least once every two years or so. “We try and get down here every couple of years,” said Frank. “And it always surprises us what’s new to the area,” added Amelia. “This time we were shocked to see the new (Great Smoky Mountain) wheel.”

I asked the Hillis couple what exactly it was that they like about Pigeon Forge that makes it different from other destinations. “I think the biggest separation factor is the number of shows,” said Amelia. “There are so many great dinner shows here compared to other places we go. We especially love Dixie Stampede.”

Frank agreed saying, “We’re Midwestern Yankees so we don’t get that kind of food or hospitality very often. It’s always a fun time with some good entertainment.”

The couple is also getting ready to celebrate their 50th anniversary and say that there’s no place they’d rather spend it than Pigeon Forge. “We’re looking for a nice place to book for that occasion,” said Amelia. “Hopefully that will be a long stay and we’ll get to relax and take our time to experience more of the area.”
