SUMMARY:The Kennedy Conspiracy: Fact & Fiction - Alcatraz East
DESCRIPTION:While it has been 63 years since President John F. Kennedy’s assassination\, people remain intensely interested in him and the conspiracy theories surrounding his death. SUMMARY:Burden of Proof: The Case Against James Earl Ray - Alcatraz East
DESCRIPTION:Alcatraz East’s ‘Burden of Proof: The Case Against James Earl Ray’ exhibit explores the life of assassin James Earl Ray\, featuring a range of artifacts including his watch and personal items from his prison cell. It will also display handwritten calligraphy from Coretta Scott King\, the wife of Martin Luther King\, Jr. at the time of his assassination in 1968. The exhibit is included with general admission. \nOn July 21\, 2025\, the Trump Administration released previously classified records concerning the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. According to the records\, King was assassinated shortly after 6 p.m. on April 4\, 1968\, in Memphis\, Tennessee. The report identifies a single shooter\, James Earl Ray\, as responsible for the killing. At the time\, Ray\, a 40-year-old who was convicted armed robber\, was an escapee from the Missouri State Penitentiary. He later pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to 99 years in prison\, although he subsequently recanted his plea and claimed innocence.  \nThe government investigation indicates that the civil rights leader was killed with a single shot\, fired from the bathroom window of a room rented by Ray\, located near the hotel where Dr. Kingwas standing outside. Additionally\, the report shows that Ray had purchased the rifle used in the assassination.

SUMMARY:The House Always Wins: How the Mob Built Vegas - Alcatraz East
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””]Those who love Las Vegas will not want to miss the new temporary exhibit opening at the Alcatraz East Crime Museum. The exhibit titled “The House Always Wins: How the Mob Built Vegas\,” opens on March 13\, 2026\, and will run through July 3\, 2026. The display will feature some authentic artifacts and commemorate the 95th anniversary of Nevada’s legalization of gambling\, which opened the door to the oasis in the desert that so many visit today. \nOn March 19\, 1931\, the state of Nevada legalized gambling in an attempt to lift the state out of the Great Depression. While gambling became legal that day\, it had been a common practice in the area for years before that. Once it was legal\, mobsters from other states saw it as an investment opportunity and began funding some of the casinos. They also moved the gambling houses from all downtown to what became known as the strip\, as they built luxurious hotels and\, later\, mega resorts. They also offered venues that hosted some headliners we still talk about today\, including the Rat Pack and Liberace. \nThe new temporary exhibit will feature information and artifacts related to Nevada’s legalization of gambling. The artifacts include an ashtray from the El Rancho Casino\, a bowtie once owned by mobster Meyer Lansky\, and a clock from gangster Allen Smiley. Guests will learn that\, long before the city became the mega-adult playground it is today\, it was a small desert stop for travelers heading west. They will also learn about how a 20th-century land auction planted the seeds of “Sin City.”[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
