The exhibit is being extended in conjunction with the declassification of additional documents related to the tragedy. These documents were previously classified\, but on March 17\, 2025\, President Donald Trump ordered their release. According to the National Archives\, the documents were released without redactions\, and some contain personal information about living individuals to maximize transparency. DESCRIPTION:Alcatraz East’s ‘Burden of Proof: The Case Against James Earl Ray’ exhibit explores the life of assassin James Earl Ray\, featuring a range of artifacts including his watch and personal items from his prison cell. It will also display handwritten calligraphy from Coretta Scott King\, the wife of Martin Luther King\, Jr. at the time of his assassination in 1968. The exhibit is included with general admission. \nOn July 21\, 2025\, the Trump Administration released previously classified records concerning the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. According to the records\, King was assassinated shortly after 6 p.m. on April 4\, 1968\, in Memphis\, Tennessee. The report identifies a single shooter\, James Earl Ray\, as responsible for the killing. At the time\, Ray\, a 40-year-old who was convicted armed robber\, was an escapee from the Missouri State Penitentiary. He later pleaded guilty to the crime and was sentenced to 99 years in prison\, although he subsequently recanted his plea and claimed innocence.  \nThe government investigation indicates that the civil rights leader was killed with a single shot\, fired from the bathroom window of a room rented by Ray\, located near the hotel where Dr. Kingwas standing outside. Additionally\, the report shows that Ray had purchased the rifle used in the assassination.

These designated days give pedestrians and cyclists an opportunity to experience the 11-mile Cades Cove Loop Road without motor vehicles. \nThinks to Know for Vehicle-Free Day: \n– Vehicle-Free Days are popular and parking is limited. Please park only in designated spots to protect pedestrians\, cyclists and roadside ecosystems. \n– Remember to purchase a parking tag online\, at the Great Smoky Mountains Welcome Center in Townsend or at fee kiosks at the Townsend Wye or Cades Cove before parking. \n– Avoid the morning rush by arriving in the afternoon. If there is no parking available in the morning\, you will need to leave and return later. The park may ticket or tow illegally parked vehicles. \n– Only bikes (including Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes) are allowed. No scooters\, skateboards or other non-motorized vehicles are permitted. Wear a helmet if you are biking\, and follow the posted 20 mile per hour speed limit. \n– Come prepared. The Cades Cove Loop Road has lots of hills and little tree cover. Pack plenty of snacks\, water and a first aid kit. There is no cell service\, so plan accordingly. Cyclists should bring a toolkit that includes spare inner tubes\, pumps\, tire levers and a multi-tool. \n– Weather can also be unpredictable\, so pack a rain jacket and dress appropriately for the temperature.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

It will explore how they have helped protect the nation’s ideals\, as well as share the ways they have evolved right alongside the country. Over the 250 years of America\, they have handled an ever-changing range of public protection issues\, including organized crime\, civil rights\, cybercrimes\, fraud\, terrorism\, and more. They have also dealt with the country’s mental health crisis and help to protect the constitution\, all while dealing with issues related to fairness and accountability. \nIn today’s America\, there is law enforcement from sea to shining sea\, including those on the local and state level\, federal agencies\, and tribal police. The agency was formed in 1789\, with their primary function to be providing law enforcement. The original vision of the U.S. Marshal Service was outlined by President George Washington. The coordinated attacks against the World Trade Center\, Pentagon\, and the crash of Flight 93 will be the focus of a new temporary exhibit at Alcatraz East Crime Museum. \nOne of the most devastating attacks on American soil\, the losses that occurred on September 11\, 2001\, will be the focus of the new temporary exhibit that will be ondisplay for the next year. The exhibit will look at what led up to the attacks\, al-Qaeda\, the intelligence challenges surrounding that day\, the lives lost\, and the aftermath for the American people. Objects that will be on display in the exhibit include Ranger Firemaster Boots\, a Rob O’Neil signed “Never Forget” trading card\, and a 9/11 DMORT Uniform. \nThroughout the month of September 2026\, there will also be a special film shown that is included with the general admission ticket. The Federal Bureau of Investigation film focuses on the investigation of Flight 93\, which was hijacked by terrorists and then crashed into a field in Pennsylvania when passengers fought back against the hijackers.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text] \nFORENSICS AT GROUND ZERO: DISASTER RESPONSE AFTER SEPTEMBER 11TH\nSevier County native Arthur Bohanan will share his firsthand experiences as part of the forensic team that identified human remains at the World Trade Center after the September 11th attacks.
