Great Smoky Mountains destination scores fourth television award
PIGEON FORGE, Tenn. (March 11, 2014) – A bespectacled, redheaded boy who constantly reminds his parents of the joys of a Pigeon Forge vacation helped the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism add an Emmy Award to its collection of industry recognitions.
The award was in an Emmy category for commercials and was for the “Remember When” spot that supported the city’s 2013 marketing campaign.
This is the fourth time Pigeon Forge has won what is known as television’s highest honor.
“I don’t know any other tourism destination that has won an Emmy Award, much less four of them,” said Leon Downey, executive director of the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism.
BOHAN Advertising in Nashville produced “Remember When” and the three previous Emmy Award winners. BOHAN has been Pigeon Forge’s marketing agency since 1990.
BOHAN has produced at least one Emmy Award-winning spot for multiple clients in nine of the last 10 years. This was the 10th year in a row the agency’s work earned nominations.
“The Pigeon Forge Tourism Department, the Tourism Advisory Board and BOHAN are a great team. Together, we really understand Pigeon Forge’s consumers, and we communicate with them extremely well. This Emmy Award proves it,” Downey said.
Downey noted that the agency has helped Pigeon Forge grow into a 12-month destination that sees more than 10 million visitors a year and hosts almost 3 million people for overnight stays.
The Nashville/Midsouth Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences gives the awards, which are deemed television’s highest honor. Based on membership, the Nashville/Midsouth Chapter is the fifth largest of the 19 chapters in the nation behind New York, San Francisco/Northern California, Chicago/Midwest and Lone Star (Texas).
