Tourist Tuesday: November 19

Today’s Tourist Tuesday is with Sheena and Joseph Lashley of Williamsburg, Kentucky who visited Pigeon Forge just in time for the Winterfest Kickoff.

“We’ve been here twice before, but this our first time at the Winterfest [kickoff],” Sheena said. Winterfest kickoff is an event that follows the Salute to Veterans Parade and consists of guest speakers, musical performances, the ceremonial lighting of over 5 million lights throughout Pigeon Forge and a seasonal display of fireworks.

“Most of the time we come closer to Christmas,” Sheena said. “We love the all the lights and going to Dollywood. This [Winterfest kickoff] was a really cool thing.”

The Lashley’s say they love to also visit the Smokies when they come down to visit our area. The day that they talked to us received considerable amounts of snow at the higher elevations so the mountains were even more beautiful than normal.

“We’re hoping to up there [Great Smoky Mountains National Park] tomorrow. I’ve never seen the mountains like this.”

Winterfest and the holiday seasons are a great time to visit Pigeon Forge. If you’re lucky you might catch a snow day like the Lashley’s did.
