Hiking Andrew’s Bald

Beating the summer heat while on vacation in Pigeon Forge is a task that many visitors are faced with. One of the most fun and efficient ways to do this is to head up to the higher elevations (and cooler temperatures) of Great Smoky Mountains National Park located just a few miles away. Hiking in the mountains is a great way to enjoy physical activity with the family.

One of the most popular high elevation hikes in the Smokies is the trail to Andrews Bald. This 3.6 mile round trip is moderate in difficulty and the views are breathtaking.

Every Tuesday in July and lasting through August 5, a ranger from the National Park Service will lead a guided hike along the trail to Andrews Bald. Visitors should meet at the Forney Ridge trailhead in the Clingmans Dome parking lot starting at 10:00 AM in order to participate in the guided hike. These hikes provide a great opportunity for families to learn about the natural history and biodiversity of the Smokies!

This trail has recently been completely renovated making the trail safer and more beautiful than ever. Be sure and look for some flame azaleas while you’re there as they are in their peak blooming stage!
