One of our favorite things to do in the summer is have picnics together as a family. The little divas love to fill the picnic basket with sandwiches, chips, and fruit, lay out their favorite blanket, and then set up a special place setting for each of us. We have even been known to have indoor picnics on our living room floor with a yellow construction paper sun taped to our fireplace when the weather outdoors hasn’t been favorable!! Picnics can be a great way to spend family time when you are on vacation too. Pigeon Forge has many great spots awaiting your family picnics.
Deep in the heart of Pigeon Forge is Patriot Park. This great park is located in Old Mill Square and is home to a replica Liberty Bell, flags from the 50 states and the branches of the armed forces, and even a Patriot Missile that was used in the first Gulf War. All of this history can stimulate some good picnic talk. The large open grassy area makes a perfect spot to lay out your picnic blanket and then for a fun game of tag or frisbee afterwards.
One side of Patriot Park backs up to the Little Pigeon River which is another good place to picnic with your family. The river runs a course throughout the city so finding a quiet spot with lots of shade along its path shouldn’t be hard!! Most days, ducks can be seen wandering around or floating in the river. Feeding the ducks is a great way to use those leftover sandwich crumbs!!
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park will not disappoint in being the perfect place for any outdoor meal either. You can sit along one of the many streams and make your own picnic spot or you can grab a park map and find one of the designated picnic areas that offers picnic tables and grills. We love the picnic area just outside Cade’s Cove…..it is the perfect stop to grab a bite to eat before heading off to explore the old pioneer town.
Wear Farm City Park is one of the newest areas to Pigeon Forge. This park offers 3 covered pavilions for picnicking along with 2 great playgrounds to entertain kids afterwards. There is also a basketball court and several ball fields for those friendly family sports competitions.
With all of these great spots, you are sure to find the perfect one for you and your family. No matter where you choose to picnic, make sure to sit back, relax, and enjoy the moment and the fresh mountain air!
